From gourmet goodies to organic produce and handmade artisan wares, Sydney’s inner city is a treasure trove for those who love browsing markets.
Here’s a taste of the best in our local area.
Carriageworks Farmers Markets
Held outside the Carriageworks arts centre every Saturday, Carriageworks Farmers Markets is unquestionably one of Sydney’s best farmers’ markets. The large collection of stallholders you’ll find here sell seasonal, organic and biodynamic produce as well as lots of gourmet goods. Whether you’re looking for locally made cheeses, Sydney’s best coffee roasters, homemade chutneys, farm fresh eggs, Australian truffles, speciality mushrooms or wild kombucha, you’ll find it here. Plenty of stalls offer samples to try and there’re food vendors and long tables where you can stop and enjoy a spot of breakfast, brunch or lunch. There’s even a stall by famous Sydney chef Kylie Kwong who’ll you’ll often spot here rattling pans. In 2018, the markets introduced a series of chef masterclasses and cooking demonstrations featuring the markets produce (bookings essential). Saturdays 8am to 3pm. Carriageworks, 245 Wilson St, Eveleigh.
The Grounds Markets
Held at the popular The Grounds of Alexandria cafe, at these much-loved markets you’ll find over 80 stallholders, which alternate weekly, featuring local bakers, markers, producers and creators. All share a passion for creating unique and innovative products, be it gourmet honey, artisanal chocolates, fine leather goods or colourful textiles.
