The Best Kids Playgrounds In Inner City Sydney

May 17th, 2019 - by Brad Gillespie

Sydney’s inner city suburbs are a haven for kids, large and small, with an eclectic mix of playgrounds to have fun, explore and let off some steam.

Here are seven of our favourite kids playgrounds in our local area:

Sydney Park

The big playground at Sydney Park offers one of a kind, tactile experience, designed to keep children busy for hours. This inner city gem has been created to stimulate children’s senses of hearing, touch and sight. The park also contains the Sydney Park Cycling Centre and children’s bike track, where they can learn about road safety and cycling, as well as wobbling their way to freedom on two wheels.

Harry Noble Reserve

The Harry Noble Reserve is a big shady, fenced playground named after a former MP for Redfern. Sitting on the corner of Swanson Street and Mitchell Road in Erskineville, the Reserve has an adventure play climber, swings and fort with a small side. There’s also a half basketball court to keep older kids busy.

Wulaba Park

Wulaba Park, in the inner city suburb of Waterloo, offers an adventure playground filled with thrills, including a giant slide, tunnels, climbing tower and swings. Nuha Saad, a Sydney artist, helped design the colourful playground with soft surfaces to land on. Wuluba is an Aboriginal word from the Gadigal people meaning ‘rock wallaby.’ With the park also containing handball and table tennis courts, there’s plenty to keep your little rock wallabies busy.

Prince Alfred Park

The recently redeveloped, award-winning Prince Alfred Park offers two kids playgrounds, nestled in 7.5 hectares of parkland. As part of its transformation, hundreds of native plant species were introduced, making it a must for junior botanists.

Renwick Street Playground

The Renwick Street playground in Alexandria is a cute local playground and was upgraded in 2016. It has a fully-fenced area for kids to play with swings, a low climbing frame and small slide for the littlies.

Little Dynamo’s

When you want to escape the elements, Little Dynamo’s in Alexandria offers an epic solution. The centre has five levels of play including a drop slide, wave slide and six metre high tunnel slide. Its foam ball arena, with thousands of balls, cannons and targets, is fun for parents too. For the little ones there is play area fenced off from the bigger kids.

Nubo is an Alexandria educational space that is bringing play innovation to the inner city. It offers state of the art play facilities including a library weaved around a hot air balloon, a building room, giant climbing frame and healthy café. Parents can select free play, facilitated play or structured workshops.
